The 2022 Confucius Institute Day Successfully Kicked Off


        The 2022 Global Confucius Institute Day was successfully held online on September 27 by  the Chinese International Education Foundation (CIEF). Yang Wei, president of the CIEF and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), delivered a video speech for the event.This event included the awarding of the Medal for Long Service as a Confucius Institute Director to 25 Chinese and local directors who have worked for the Confucius Institute for more than ten years, and it also included the joining of seven new partners to the Confucius Institute’s big family. CIers across the world participated in and celebrated this festival via the Internet.

“Joint endeavors in the past ten years have turned into passions for the Confucius Institute.” The awarding of the Medal for Long Service as a Confucius Institute Director is not only a tribute to the hard work and great contributions that CIers have made for the institute but also a powerful driving force for the development of the cause. The experience of every director’s tenure is a great story that everybody finds touching. Two representatives of the awarded directors shared their experiences and feelings upon the Confucius Institute with their best wishes for the development of the Confucius Institute and firm confidence in their engagement in international Chinese-language education. “It is difficult for one person to shoulder great responsibilities alone, but it is much easier with group efforts.” Zhao Lingshan, vice president and secretary-general of CIEF, expressed his gratitude to the awarded directors and all the teachers, volunteers, and staff of the Confucius Institute.

“A man of virtue will never be isolated.” The Confucius Institute has become the largest language and cultural education institution worldwide in just over a decade. Its rapid development is rooted in the strong support of people from all walks of life both at home and abroad. On the Confucius Institute Day this year, seven enterprises and social organizations were conferred the honorary title of 2021–2022 Charitable Donors with sincere thanks for their charitable donations.

“Sharing your Chinese journey!” The winners of the 2022 CI Moments Global Short Video Collection Event were also announced on the Confucius Institute Day. This short-video collection event, hosted by CIEF and supported by China Education Publishing & Media Group Ltd., was successfully launched in April 2022, and it received enthusiastic responses from Confucius Institute teachers and students across the world and from people of all walks of life. From the 496 works submitted by 119 Confucius Institutes in 68 countries, 100 outstanding short videos were selected as the award winners after the process of initial evaluation, re-evaluation and final evaluation. It is reported that some mainstream media such as the China Media Group (CMG) and TouTiao, have extended invitations to CIEF for cooperation. In addition, Improving Chinese by Learning Peking Opera, an award-winning work by Khantisan Pinkhiew, a student from the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, was selected for the Good Show, a program produced by the CMG.

“The prosperity we enjoyed during the Year of the Tiger is not over, and the Year of the Rabbit is drawing near.” On the Confucius Institute Day, the CIEF extended an invitation to all the CIers around the world to gather at the 2023 Online Chinese Lunar New Year Gala of Confucius Institutes, where they can exhibit their brilliance and talents while together celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year in 2023.

“Even mountains and seas cannot distance people with common aspirations.” The Confucius Institute welcomed seven new partners to our big family of Confucius Institutes worldwide, infusing fresh vitality.

Firstly launched in 2014, the Confucius Institute Day is usually celebrated in late September with Confucius Institutes around the world carrying out themed activities of all kinds on that day. In some places, Confucius Institute Day has already become a popular festival for the schools, communities, and cities where Confucius Institutes are located.
